“Shake, Rattle and Roll,” the most popular horror franchise from Regal Films, is now on its 12th installment, to be shown in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) next month.

The only local movie also known by its initials, “SRR” completes the annual lineup of entries in the MMFF, as it is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films during the holiday season.

With a stellar lineup of cast members and horrifying new creatures, “SRR XII” is from the esteemed film outfit of Mother Lily Monteverde and daughter Roselle Monteverde-Teo.

Three young directors, who are today’s most exciting discoveries in the film industry, work at the helm of the popular trilogy. They unleash their creative genius to execute the stories that are really frightening and at the same time, exciting.

Roselle assures the production values and special effects in “SRR XII” are top-notch. “This latest ‘SRR’ will not disappoint the audience. There will be new creatures out to terrorize and that really challenged the directors.”

“Mamanyika” marks the big screen directorial debut of Zoren Legaspi. The story is about an orphaned girl who gets a doll that turns out to be evil and kills people. Shaina Magdayao and Ricky Davao lead the cast.

Director Topel Lee, fresh from the box-office office success of another Regal suspense-thriller, “White House,” combines fantasy and horror in the “Isla Engkanto” episode. Starring are Andi Eigenmann and Rayver Cruz, two of the finest performers of their generation. John Lapus and Regine Angeles co-star.

“Punerarya” is about a family who owns a funeral parlor, but actually satisfies their hunger by making meals out of the dead bodies. Sid Lucero, Carla Abellana, Mart Escudero lead the cast, with child actor Nash Aguas, who bagged the best child performer award in Topel’s “Yaya” episode in “SRR X.” Director is Jerrold Tarog.

“SRR XII” is part of the 50th anniversary offering of Regal Films this year. “Every new ‘SRR’ film surpasses the previous one,” Mother Lily says. “We at Regal are proud at every ‘SRR’ that we give the audience during the MMFF.”

The haunting starts again when “Shake, Rattle and Roll XII” opens in theaters nationwide on December 25.
