Unexpected tandems and familiar love teams will topbill Star Cinema's offerings for 2010. This was revealed by Star AdProm director Roxy Liquigan and Star Cinema & TV Synergy Specialist Mico del Rosario in an exclusive interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last January 15 at the ABS-CBN compound.
During the said interview, they also revealed the box-office gross of the movies produced by ABS-CBN's film outfit.
For its first offering this 2010, Paano Na Kaya is topbilled by Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. The story revolves around two people who cross the line from being friends to being a couple. Kim's character is touted to be a rebound girl since Gerald's character broke up with his previous girlfriend (portrayed by Melissa Ricks).
They will be joined by Robi Domingo, Guji Lorenzana, IC Mendoza, Alwyn Uytingco, and Zsa Zsa Padilla. Rica Peralejo will have a special participation in this movie.
Directed by Ruel Bayani , the same director of the primetime series Tayong Dalawa, Paano Na Kaya will premiere on January 27, 2010.
MISS YOU LIKE CRAZY. Fans who missed the tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo will go crazy over Miss You Like Crazy. This post-Valentine's Day offering of Star Cinema and Viva Films will premiere on February 24.
Bea was last paired with John Lloyd Cruz in the 2007 blockbuster hit One More Chance. This time, they are reunited on the big screen and a portion of the film will be shot in Malaysia. Maricar Reyes joins them in this film since she is cast as a girlfriend of John Lloyd. The movie is helmed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.
BABE, I LOVE YOU. Former couple Sam Milby and Anne Curtis will be paired in this romance film scheduled to be released on Black Saturday, April 3. Mae Cruz, who co-megged the TV shows Maging Sino Ka Man and Krystala, will try her hand in directing a movie.
They will use Piolo Pascual's version of "Babe I Love You" (culled from his Decades album) as the theme song of this movie.
GABBY AND KC ON THE BIG SCREEN. Not to be missed is the first movie project of Gabby Concepcion and his daughter KC Concepcion. Gabby previously appeared in I Love You, Goodbye, where he was paired with Angelica Panganiban.
KC's leading man in this movie will be Jericho Rosales. When asked if Sharon Cuneta will appear in this still-untitled movie, they stated, "Wala pang pinag-uusapan."
PIOLO AND SANTINO. Heartthrob Piolo Pascual will soon star opposite Zaijian Jaranilla, more popularly known as Santino of the primetime show May Bukas Pa.
ANGEL LOCSIN AND AGA MUHLACH. Another project to look forward to is the movie team-up of Angel Locsin and Aga Muhlach. They have no date yet for its release but Aga is still busy shooting for the Viva Films movie Of All the Things. In fact, it was reported in PEP Alerts that Aga and Regine Velasquez shot scenes for the movie recently in Camarines Sur.
ROBIN PADILLA AND TONI GONZAGA. When asked to clarify what happened to Robin Padilla's projects with Star Cinema, Roxy pointed out: "Ang hindi namin kasi alam kung TV ba ang uunahin niya or movie. Sabi ni Robin, movie na muna ang unahin niya so yun ang inaayos namin.
"Gusto niya talaga dito gumawa sa Star Cinema. Matagal na din kaming walang pelikula with Robin. Videoke King (2002) pa. We love Robin naman. Masarap katrabaho si Robin," he says.
OTHER UPCOMING PROJECTS. The Star Cinema executives were so impressed by Angelica Panganiban that they described her as a "rarity." They point out that it is hard to find versatile artists who can do drama, comedy, and even sexy roles. Last December, Angelica starred in the Metro Manila Film Fest entry I Love You, Goodbye, which was chosen as 2nd Best Picture during the 35th MMFF.
It was mentioned that they might push through with Cooking ng Ina Mo, another installment of the Ina series starring Ai-Ai delas Alas. Wenn Deramas reunites with Ai-Ai just like in the past installments Tanging Ina (2003), Ang Cute ng Ina Mo (2007), Ang Tanging Ina Nyong Lahat (2008), and Ang Tanging Pamilya (2009).
As for Pinoy Big Brother Double Up housemates Melissa "Melai" Cantiveros and Jason Francisco, are there plans to give them their own movie?
"Iba kasi ang TV sa movies. We have to meet with them first," explains Roxy. There have been reports saying that the Melason love team will be appearing in the upcoming Ai-Ai delas Alas movie, but they clarified that they are still in the process of fixing it.
Star Cinema is also developing projects for Lorna Tolentino, Erich Gonzales and Enchong Dee, as well as an acting piece for Zanjoe Marudo. They are also hoping to launch Coco Martin and Pokwang on the big screen.
The Kanto Boys, composed of John Lloyd Cruz, Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford, and Vhong Navarro, just might debut on the big screen soon.
Of course, the loveable tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo will have another installment after their box-office hits A Very Special Love (2008) and You Changed My Life (2009). However, they have no definite date yet for a follow-up of this romantic comedy.
Last year, Roxy already mentioned that Star Cinema wants to venture into animation. This December, they are hoping that the plan to co-produce with Ambient Media will push through. It will be a Filipino animated film tentatively called RPG (which stands for role playing game).
