There's no nudity, and a "penetration" consummates only towards the end, but
Dose is a decidedly sexual journey. It's the story of a boy's coming of age, yet the genius of the movie is that it acknowledges the boy's sexuality as something to be anticipated and inevitable, a thing of the future, but also a tactile presence, already happening.
Edy (Fritz Chavez) likes to watch movies and imitate his favorite actresses. Snippets of screen gems from the 80's -- most of them from great works of camp like
Temptation Island and
Waikiki -- are interspersed, and it's a wonderful device. What we're made to feel is not merely nostalgia, but more urgently, the hidden allure and danger of Edy's moment-to-moment discoveries. It's an occuring force within him, whether or not there's an explanation for it.
It's the same natural tendency at work when he finds somebody's old dolls and begins to play with them, and also, especially, during an ever-evolving friendship with the house gardener Danny (Yul Servo). Under the steady hand of Writer-Director Senedy Que, the scenes between the boy and the older man are lovely and tender, but also increasingly tense. He frames his shots to suggest sex -- a carefully gripped garden hose here, two bodies on a pendulum swing there, Servo's half-naked body, so near yet so far, in ultra-short denims that expose the underwear bulges -- and it's done with as much wry humor as malicious suspense. What Que has constructed, brilliantly, is the period in a gay boy's life when he doesn't quite know if he should hold back or dive forward, because the world ahead is too unknown but also too mighty to ignore. Servo plays Danny smashingly. Almost innocent in the embrace of his own charisma, but also somewhat calculating, Danny is light and dark, a devil that's also the only guardian angel around. Symbolically, he's the forbidden fruit, a glimpse of both heaven and hell. If some audiences find the movie an uncomfortable viewing, it's because Que has allowed the mixed emotions to curdle all at the same time, resulting in an original blend of calm, almost deadpan, sexy fury. And, for a controversially themed drama, it's surprisingly free of moralistic judgment. I found it touching, funny, sad, and exhilarating. This is a gay coming of age that's deeper, braver, edgier than
Ang Pagdadalaga Ni Maximo Oliveros (The Blossing of Maximo Oliveros) or
Ang Lihim Ni Antonio (Antonio's Secret).
Que, a multi-awarded writer making his directorial debut, bills Dose "a personal film", and whatever the factual details behind the story, it does have the power of a traumatic reminiscence. Every character is touched with a graceful humanity, including the aunt who wishes to cast away Edy's gay demons, played beautifully by Irma Adlawan, and Emilio Garcia as the older Edy, a filmmaker who makes a movie about when he was twelve and finds catharsis. The film also makes room for the boy's loneliness and familial alienation. The images are burnished like a disintegrating home video, long lost and rewatched. Dose is a memory of a present turning into the future -- a near-perfect encapsulation of the precise instance when there was no turning back.

" The story begins with Goku, who seeks out upon his adoptive grandfather Grandpa Gohan's dying request to find the great Master Roshi and gather all seven Dragon Balls. Of which he has one, in order to prevent the evil Piccolo from succeeding in his desire to use the Dragon Balls to take over the world. And Goku's quest is to obtain the mystical Dragonballs before Piccolo does. "

According to the box-office report from the festival insider, Star Cinema’s entry to this year’s MMFF - “Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat” - leads 1st day earnings.
Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat is the sequel to the no. 1 all-time box-office hit “Ang Tanging Ina” which was shown in 2003. The movie is topbilled by Ai Ai delas Alas and Eugene Domingo among others and directed by Wenn de Ramas for Star Cinema.
There are early predictions that the Ai Ai delas Alas-starrer will lead the box-office race and it looks like it’s heading to reality as tickets for the Star Cinema movie were sold out in some SM Cinemas. The said comedy film is rated G by the MTRCB for the whole family to enjoy.
Running in second place is Iskul Bukol: 20 Years After. Tito, Vic and Joey reprises their role in the film adaptation of their hit tv sitcom 20 years ago. Directed by Tony Reyes, expect to catch several stars making a cameo in the movie including Bong Revilla Jr., Manny Pacquiao and Sharon Cuneta.
In 3rd place is the 10th installment of the popular horror franchise Shake, Rattle and Roll. The Regal Films entry is topbilled by Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu and Marian Rivera.
On the other hand, two entries received the highest grade of “A” for excellence in filmmaking from the Cinema Evaluation Board. The Viva Films entry “Baler” and the Jinggoy Estrada-Christopher de Leon starrer “Magkaibigan” will be exempted from paying amusement tax to the government for receiving the “A” grade. Apparently, “Baler” badly needed the tax exemption because according to reports, it is the highest-budgeted film among the 8 entries of the Metro Manila Film Festival this year.
The Awards Night is happening on December 27. Among the 8 entries, Magkaibigan and Baler are expected to haul trophies including Best Picture. Unless, another surprise is in store.
The Metro Manila Film Festival will run from December 25, 2008 to January 7, 2009 in theaters nationwide.

Ancient mythology speaks of vagina dentata. Folk tales relate stories of women with toothed vagina that castrate men’s member during sexual intercourse. It’s a story no one has probably heard of, but in the 2007 Sundance hit aptly titled “Teeth”, the myth achieves urban legend status and shows the world how sinister and gratifying it is for a woman to have vagina dentata.
Dawn (Jess Weixler) is a teenage spokesperson for a Christian group that advocates abstinence and celibacy among the youth. She meets Tobey (Hale Appleman) in the same group and it’s evident that they both like each other. ‘Like’ is a four-letter word and so is ‘lust’. When they visit a secluded swimming spot, the two try not to entertain their ‘unpure’ thoughts of seeing each other butt naked, but the more they try not to, the more they do. Damn that purity pledge.
The flesh sure is weak. The two began kissing and Tobey forced himself into Dawn, that’s when the unthinkable happened. A snapping sound is heard. Tobey screams frantically. Dawn screams as well. And the camera zooms in on Tobey’s wang. However, Tobey’s wang is not in its usual place anymore, rather it is seen on the floor. Another satisfied customer of vagina dentata. Congratulations.
Dawn desperately seeks for answers that will explain her condition. As she wrestles with her morals and guilt, she realizes that this curse is also a gift so that she can protect herself. From there, you can just imagine how our heroine turns herself from virginal to spiteful villainess hungry to emasculate more assholes.
“Teeth” is not your typical horror film. You won’t find random apparitions of long-haired women or guys screaming for help while Dawn runs after them in the lawn. This horror film slash dark comedy is a story of first love and innocence lost, and eventually transforms itself into a female revenge fantasy – a woman’s answer to men who only look at them as sex objects. Payback is a bitch.
Careful young lads, before you put your pole in that hole, be sure to inspect that there are no teeth in there.
* Good news: “Teeth” is coming to our cinemas soon. Its trailer is already playing in Robinsons malls, and its poster can already be seen in Gateway mall.

When “Urduja” was released in mid-2008, its claim was that it is the FIRST full-length animated film produced locally. That claim was fallacious. “Ibong Adarna” has earned that distinction single-handedly in 1997. With the release of “Dayo sa Mundo ng Elementalia”, Cutting Edge Productions promises another first in Philippine cinema. It is touted as the Philippines’ first all-digital, full-length animated movie. Unlike “Ibong Adarna” and “Urduja”, the production of “Dayo” is completely paperless. Animation is rendered through a combination of traditional and 3D technologies.
Much has been said about the sheer talent of Pinoy animators but because of the lukewarm condition of the animation industry in the country, these animators are forced to search for greener pastures elsewhere. Many are employed by Disney and Warner studios, while some are subcontractors of animation houses. I can just imagine the excitement and dedication over this animated film in its two-year span of production.
The Gist“Dayo” unfolds like a typical underdog story. The shy and timid Bubuy (voiced by Nash Aguas) is always picked on by the bullies in school. He dreams of soaring the vast sky and flying high above the clouds in order to escape his humdrum life. His life is turned upside down when his grandparents were abducted by elementals. Together with Anna (voiced by Katrina “Hopia” Legaspi), the vegetarian manananggirl, they cross the portal separating our world and Elementalia. With the help of Narsi (voiced by Michael V.), the narcissistic and feeling cool tikbalang, and Nuno (voiced by Peque Galaga), the wise sage, Bubuy braved the dangers that lurk Elementalia in order to save his grandparents before the next full moon rises to its peak. His adventures in Elementalia transformed Bubuy from zero to hero.
The Verdict“Dayo” is brimming with authentic Filipino elements – folklores, myths, pop culture references, and even Pinoy slang. Mythical creatures abound Elementalia, but “Dayo” reanimates them in a manner never seen before. Here, you’ll see a diwata that transforms itself into an evil bruha, mermen and mermaids defying the law of gravity, an evil kapre who speaks in Waray, a band of aswangs and tiyanaks that shape-shifts, a cross-breed between an alitaptap and a tutubi (aptly called alitubi), and many more. These creatures can give Pokemons a run for their money.
The voice acting from the star-studded cast is also commendable. The rest of the ensemble consists of Pokwang as Vicky, Anna’s yayananggal; Laurice Guillen as Diwata/Bruha and Kapre; Noel Trinidad as Lolo Meong; Nova Villa as Lola Nita; and Johnny Delgado as Carpio, Anna’s father and Elementalia’s manananggol.
The laudable soundtrack and musical score, likewise, deserves special mention. Lea Salonga recorded the theme song “Lipad”, while Roots of Nature performed a more upbeat version of the song. Jessie Lasaten took over production duties and records the musical score with a full orchestra under the baton of Gerard Salonga. In order to jive with the feel and mood of Elementalia, the orchestral score is accompanied with ethnic Pinoy instruments courtesy of Joey Ayala.
“Dayo” has its own share of shortcomings as well especially on the technical side. There were glitches here and there with regards to animation rendering and shading. There are scenes where the images become flat, as if they have turned into cardboard figures and paper dolls. Cutting Edge Productions could really use some help in this department, especially if they plan to turn this animated film into a trilogy.
The film is intended to make the kids giggle in excitement and jump for joy, but for adults, the simplistic story will get in the way of sensible enjoyment. This is not Wall-E that imparts socially relevant messages about the planet and humanity. The plot is as basic as it can get. Perhaps intentionally, in order to help the kids easily digest what the film has to offer.

When Ang Tanging Ina was released in 2003, everyone was taken by surprise. Back then, Ai-Ai de las Alas was not a Megastar or a Star for all Seasons who can topbill a movie all on her own. But armed with spontaneous goofs and inventive spoofs, Ang Tanging Ina made millions in the box office, making it one of the highest-grossing Filipino film during that time. (Kris Aquino's Sukob dethroned it in 2006.) After five years, a boob tube spin-off, and another "Ina" movie (Ang Cute ng Ina Mo), Star Cinema revamps the franchise with the sequel Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat.
SYNOPSIS. Ai-Ai returns as Ina Montecillo, the single mother of twelve. Most of the original cast reprises their roles. Eugene Domingo plays the wacky but supportive best friend, Rowena. The children of Ina were played by: Carlo Aquino as Dimitri, Alwyn Uytingco as Pip, Shaina Magdayao as Severina, Serena Dalrymple as Cate, Jiro Manio as Shammy, and Yuki Kadooka as Ten-Ten. Meanwhile, Marvin Agustin (Juan), Nikki Valdez (Tudis), Heart Evangelista (Portia), and Mark Acueza (Sixto) did not reprise their roles. Marvin and Heart are now contract stars of GMA-7, while Nikki and Mark have retired from show business. However, Ina explains their whereabouts during the film's opening sequence.
Faced with the same dilemma she had in Part 1, Ina struggles to make both ends meet for her family but Lady Luck doesn't seem to be on her side. She unwittingly sabotages every chance she gets to secure a stable job. So she continues to jump from one odd job to the next as fast as reality shows churn out new TV stars. But there's more to being a mother than just being an income provider. All she wants is for her children to be proud of her. Ina soon finds herself as a chambermaid in the MalacaƱang Palace and eventually the president of this 80+ million strong nation. How it happened is for viewers to find out.
For a movie about the president, it is inevitable for Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat not to have political undertones but director Wenn Deramas and screenwriter Mel del Rosario stayed away from such. Being satirical never fails to give comedies a deeper meaning, that beneath the surface of humor and folly lays genuine societal problems. This could have worked for the film's benefit, but Direk Wenn merely scratched the surface and took the safe route. Instead, it reflected on the colorful past of Philippine politics, making pop culture references to snap elections, special treatment to convicted ex-politicians, and Pinoy's obsession with People Power revolutions.
In lieu of the insanely funny spoofs from Part 1, the screenwriter rephrases salawikain (sayings) to become witty lines such as "ang batang masipag, paglaki pagod" and "aanhin mo pa ang mala-palasyong bahay kung hindi ka naman doon nakatira." They become staple quotations uttered by Ina throughout the film.
THE VERDICT. Stripping the film down to its core, the real gift of Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat are the performances. No doubt that Ai-Ai delas Alas is one of the most versatile actresses today. She embodies what the character asks for. Playing a character as comical as Ina, it would be easy for her to reduce the character to a mere caricature. But through Ai-Ai's understanding of the demands of her character, she made Ina a three-dimensional character capable of giving selfless love and making mistakes.
Eugene Domingo also puts her game face on as Ina's sidekick. She has a natural gift of humor. She could play a cactus and still be funny. Whenever this duo is together, the screen lights up with unanimous laughter and cheers. There are corny jokes thrown in once in a while and slapstick humor is abundant but there are several memorable moments worth mentioning.
One of the funny scenes in the movie is when Ina and Rowena caught Jeffrey, played by John Prats, visiting Severina in their humble abode (If you'll remember, Jeffrey used to date Portia. In this sequel, Jeffrey allegedly broke Portia's heart and is now out to get Severina. The best friends confronted Jeffrey and asked him to stay away from Severina. Then Rowena suddenly butts in, "at sino ang isusunod mo, ako?" That scene was definitely hilarious.
Although the supporting cast isn't given much to do, they have their own little moments to shine. Another funny scene is during the confrontation between Dimitri and Pip after the former found out that the latter has a sex scandal currently on circulation. Dimitri says, "Kayo talagang mga bakla, salot!" Without hesitation, Pip answers back, "I may be a slut, but I'm the best slut in town." The line is picked up from a line delivered by Anne Curtis in ABS-CBN's Maging Sino Ka Man. "*****! Salot ang sabi ko, hindi slut," exclaims Dimitri.
Direk Wenn and scriptwriter Mel stick to the formula that made its predecessor a runaway blockbuster hit, combining a hefty dose of comedic stunts and a hint of family drama just enough to wet our hankies. The film could have experimented a bit to shake things up. But as it is, it is good to know that the charm of Ai-Ai and Eugene hasn't worn off one bit in this latest "Ina" installment.
Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat will open in cinemas nationwide starting Christmas Day, December 25.

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera were considered as the hottest loveteam when they made two hit TV series such as Marimar and Dyesebel, but as far as their movie 'One True Love' is concerned, their tandem is not really that hot as the movie finds it hard to enter the Top 10 Highest Grossing Films of 2008.
As of November 30, 2008, 'One True Love', which premiered in theaters last November 19, has a total gross earnings of 53.2 million pesos, which only ranks 11th highest grossing film of the year.
I expected a lot from this movie especially that their teleseryes were consistent in getting 40+ ratings, according to AGB Nielsen Media Research.
In February, Marian was paired to Richard Gutierrez in the Valentine movie 'My Bestfriend's Girlfriend' and it was a hit, currently #4 in the Philippine Box Office for 2008.
But, with the "not so favorable" box-office results of 'One True Love', it's safe to say that the success of 'My Bestfriend's Girlfriend' can be solely attributed to Richard, who also made another hit last August via 'For the First Time' with KC Concepcion.
Meanwhile, 'Scaregivers' which stars Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola had an amazing start, with a 5-day box-office gross of 13.9 million pesos.

We have launched today Lea Salonga's version of
"Lipad," theme song of "Dayo sa Mundo ng Elementalia," an all-digital, full-length animated film entry to the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). Music by Jessie Lasaten, executive producer and musical scorer. Lyrics by Temi Abad, Jr.
The song was recorded with the FILharmoniKA, conducted by Gerard Salonga.
The animated film's original soundtrack recording, under the Sony BMG (Philippines) label, will be available in stores soon.
Support "Dayo" as it opens in Philippine cinemas on December 25, 2008.

Even before Dayo sa Mundo ng Elementalia hits the cinemas on December 25, it has already registered a lot of firsts for the Philippine movie industry. It is touted as the first Filipino film to be produced in Dolby 7.1 and the first Pinoy movie to collaborate with Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation.
"Dayo" is poised not only as a feast to the eyes but will seek to establish a deeper connection with the audience through its music.
Jessie Lasaten, multi-awarded film music composer and executive producer of "Dayo," weaves magic by complementing the digital animated film with an ensemble of an all-Filipino musical talent and the use of indigenous instruments. Providing for a multi-sensorial treat to audiences of all ages, "Dayo's" soundtrack highlights the rendition of world-renowned performer Lea Salonga of the movie's theme song, "Lipad." Her version of "Lipad" and the whole film score were recorded together with the FILharmoniKA under the baton of Gerard Salonga.
It will be recalled that Lea had already lent her singing voice to Mulan and Princess Jasmine of "Aladdin," both from Walt Disney. Lea's track will accompany the first flight of Bubuy (voiced over by Nash Aguas) and Anna manananggirl (voiced over by Katrina Legaspi). "Lipad is a song about believing in dreams and making them come true," explains Jessie who collaborated with Temi Abad, Jr. in writing the lyrics.
"Kaya mong lumipad," is a line from the movie's theme song. It speaks of an aspiration to soar and at the same time, talks about the readiness to reach new heights.
Aside from Lea's inspirational version, upcoming band Roots of Nature sang an upbeat version of "Lipad." This is currently being played on airwaves under the Sony BMG label.
Youtube sensation and "Bubble Gang" mainstay Moymoy Palaboy and Roadfill also perform "Kapit," a song about friendship. The two are already signed up with Sony BMG and they are slated to come out with their album soon. The 25-year old Moymoy (whose real name is James Obeso) used to be a vocalist for the band Pashionista, which is now based in Singapore. His brother Roadfill (whose real name is Rodfil Obeso) is two years younger and used to work for a telecommunications company. During the December 11 press conference of "Dayo sa Mundo ng Elementalia," the two performed their song "Kapit" while the music video of the song was shown on a big screen above them.
New band Juan Lunar performed "Daybreak," a song about being there for someone when they need you most.
Jessie narrates their efforts to come up with the movie's full soundtrack, which contains 31 tracks.
"We have music that combines full orchestral instrumentation with the ethnic instruments of Joey Ayala. I've composed new themes for the major characters. In terms of scoring the scenes, I've combined orchestral score with Filipino ethnic instruments especially when Bubuy enters Elementalia. We asked Joey to sing the Elementalia Dayo song as well as have him perform his 'hegalong,' a two-string lute instrument. He also played kubing (jaw harp), kulintang (ethnic gong), and nose flute which added texture to the score in the Elementalia scenes." This multi-faceted musical scoring will guarantee to carry the viewers from one scene to the next, bridging animation and real life.
"Dayo's" original soundtrack album is now available in record bars courtesy of Sony BMG. It is being sold at P285. www.pep.ph

THE OctoArts sex comedy entry, "One Night Only," is about the hilarious sexcapades of various characters in a motel and writer-director Joey Reyes wants to stress that the rumor that all the sex-filled misadventures portrayed in it are all based on his own personal motel experiences is simply not true. "Yung iba lang," he laughs. "The other stories are based on the experiences of other friends at 'yung kay Alex de Rossi na extrang tinangay sa set ng isang aktor happened on the set of a movie I did, 'Kung Ako Na Lang Sana'. Biglang nawala 'yung isang aktor ko, dinala pala sa motel 'yung extra."
The various interwoven stories in it revolve on Katrina Halili as a golddigger who has a congressman lover (Ricky Davao) and a Chinese businessman as lovers, Alessandra de Rossi as the extra who's taken to the motel by an action star (Paolo Contis) for a one-night stand, Jennylyn Mercado as the lover of a lesbian (Manilyn Reynes) and Joross Gamboa as the kept boy of a homosexual (Chokoleit), and Diana Zubiri and Valerie Concepcion as two girls who don't know they're sharing the same hunk (Jon Avila.) So which is the character he can identify with? "Si Diana who, after going to bed, asks Jon: Will you still respect me?"
It's said that "One Night Only" is up against "Desperadas 2" as they're both comedies about five women. "Ay, hindi, magkaiba sila kasi itong 'One Night Only' happens only in the course of nine hours inside a motel. We used the Tripoli Motel in Marcos Highway as our set."
Who shone the most in the movie? "All of them are good, wala akong naging problema. But I realized that Katrina is really most effective as a comedienne. The funniest players are Manilyn and Chokoleit as the lesbian and gay managers na nagpalit ng dates nila to get inside the motel. Kunwari, si Joross ang kay Mane at si Jennylyn kay Chokoleit. Ang nangyari, sina Joross at Jen ang nagkagustuhan. Naawa naman ako kay Jon Avila kasi about 40% of the film, he's just in his briefs as this man who tries to please two women in bed. But he's not conscious at all dahil siguro sanay mag-model ng briefs. I assure the viewers tatawa sila sa 'One Night Only' from start to finish."
Joey is this year's most prolific mainstream director having finished five films: "When Love Begins," "Monster Mom," "One Night Only," "Magkaibigan" (another filmfest entry) and "Civil Status: Single" which will be shown next year. He's also all set to start the Richard-KC Valentine movie to be shot in a beautiful resort in Coron, Palawan. In 2009, he wants to buy his own digital camera to make his own indie film, preferably the story of violinist Ernest Vallejo who was held captive by the Japanese in Fort Santiago during World War II.

This is short review of the MMFF official movie entry, Desperadas 2 for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2008 awards. Desperadas 2 is actually a sequel to the first movie, Desperadas and stars the same set of character from Ruffa Mae Quinto, Ruffa Gutierrez, Marian Rivera and Iza Calzado. This is a Regal Entertainment feature and directed by the critically acclaimed Joel Lamangan.
There is really very little for me to say about Desperadas but what I can tell you is that this is not just your ordinary movie of four distinct attitude of each of the girls having only one mother but with different fathers each. They get along together and go along with each other and I bet you would want to watch this movie also because of the unique set-up of the theme. This is rare in its likeness that Filipinos have come to grow up with the kind of culture as a woman and as a person. Unique setting of the story and character is the right word for me on this film, Desperadas 2.

Napanood ko ang Twilight with a friend last Sunday with a friend at Robinsons Galleria.
When we entered the Cinema, may mga nakatayo (

Sobrang natuwa ako sa Cullen Family kaya bibigyan ko sila ng one by one review:Carlisle – they need to fix his make-up. It made him seem unattractive. I liked the acting though. Very convincing naman kahit papaano.
Esme –Was a little short, a little overweight, pero cute naman. Wala lang... Natuwa lang ako.
Alice - They nailed the look, but her voice was a bit strange. Parang hindi lang akama sa kanya.
Jasper - Hands down, Jasper had the closest body to what the book describes. I’m unsure why they felt the need to give him ugly hair. He was fine as an actor, but I certainly didn’t want him to speak more than he did.
Like a bitch? Sorry for the term.
share ko lang from a text; lines from the movie Twilight:
Few reasons why a lot of girls love Edward Anthony Masen Cullen...
A normal guy would say,
"I love you Baby!"Edward would say,
"You are my life now".As you leave the house...
A normal guy would say,
"Bye, see yah!"Edward would say,
"Hurry back to me".While you've gone far away,
A normal guy would say,
"I miss you!"Edward would say,
"It's like you've taken half myself with you".If you die, a normal guy would find another....
Edward would kill himself cause
"life without you isn't worth living".I am looking forward sa second installation ng movie na ito: New Moon sa mas magandang mga characters at mga kaabang-abang na mga characters.
I left completely surprised, in a good way. This movie went well beyond my expectations, and, shockingly enough, my friend also enjoyed the movie. This movie actually made us like the series more. It satisfied my urge to see these characters come to life. Sure, it was cheesy and awkward in some parts, but teen romance is cheesy and awkward. I think we can all agree with that. All I can say is "You'll Gonna Love the Vampires of Twilight!" Thats it!
