Star Cinema’s latest movie offering “In The Name of Love” made it to the list of top 20 highest-grossing films worldwide this first quarter, the Associated Press reported.

The romance-drama film top billed by Angel Locsin and Aga Muhlach landed on the 15th spot, earning $1,917,443 (approximately P84 million) since its premiere on May 11.

The report said the results were compiled by Rentrak Theatrical and provided by Hollywood.com.

Star Cinema's In the Name of Love landed at 15th place in a Top 20 list of movies worldwide with the highest gross.


The Angel Locsin-Aga Muhlach romantic drama grossed $1,917,443 (approximately P84 million) in the box office, as reported by the Associated Press on May 19.

The movie opened in local theaters on May 11.

The data came from Rentrak, a media measurement and research company that has been providing industry data for over two decades.

Star Cinema and M-Zet's comedy film "Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak" earned P15 million in ticket sales on its first day of screening on Black Saturday.


This was according to ABS-CBN’s weekly entertainment show “The Buzz.”

Under the direction of Tony Y. Reyes, “Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak” is the comeback movie of Prince of Comedy Vic Sotto under Star Cinema.

It's also the first movie pairing Sotto with ABS-CBN's Bea Alonzo.

Sotto and Alonzo extended their appreciation to all moviegoers who supported their film.

"Ano pa ang masasabi namin kung hindi pak! isa pak! tumpak! Happy Easter sa lahat. Nais naming magpasalamat sa lahat ng tumangkilik at kasalukuyang tumatangkilik sa lahat ng mga feedback na natanggap namin tuwang tuwa daw sila sa pelikula," Sotto said.

Alonzo added: "Masayang masaya salamat sa lahat ng nanonood na kasama pa ang pamilya nila at kaibigan nila, thank you."

“Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak” is rated G or GP by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board and graded B by Cinema Evaluation Board.

Last year’s box office results showed My Amnesia Girl starring Toni Gonzaga and John Lloyd Cruz topping the list with P144.81 million gross revenues.

It was followed by Miss You Like Crazy starring again, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo with P142.97 million gross.

It is no doubt that John Lloyd Cruz will once again be crowned as the Box Office King while the Box Office Queen is still yet to be figured out. It is a toss between Toni Gonzaga and Ai-ai delas Alas.

The above figures still exclude the box office results of the Metro Manila Filmfest 2010 (MMFF).

On the recent MMFF Entries, the top two movies were Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote and Ang Taning Ina Mo, last na ‘to.

Si Agimat at Si Entenng Kabisote had P159M gross revenues from Dec. 25 to Jan. 7. But if we were to account until 31 December 2010, it grossed P123M (estimated).

Ang Tanging Ina Mo, last na ‘to had P171 million gross receipts from Dec. 25 to Jan. 9 and P109 million until 31 December 2010.

Let us wait and see which box office results will the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation (GMMFF) use.

According to Mr. Ric Camaligan, miyembro ng Executive Committee ng Metro Manila Film Festival ang official box-office results ng mga pelikulang kalahok sa katatapos na filmfest.

Tuwang-tuwa itong ibinalita na sa pagtatapos ng filmfest, nakalikom ito ng P530 million at masasabing ito na ang pinakamataas na kinita ng MMFF sa loob ng 36 na taon.

Ang top grosser na Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote ang may pinakamataas ding kinita at record-breaker ito.

Umabot ng 159 million pesos ang kinita nito, at record-breaker din daw ang first-day earnings nito na umabot ng 32 million pesos.

Malaking bagay ang paghakot ng awards ng Tanging Ina Mo, Last na ‘To kaya humabol at dumikit pa sa Agimat - umabot din ito ng157 million pesos.

Pumangatlo ang Dalaw na kumita ng 96 million pesos at pang-apat ang Shake, Rattle and Roll 12 na naka-50 million pesos.

The romantic movie “Till My Heartaches End” from Star Cinema starring Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson has now earned more than P50 million on its second week run from 75 theaters nationwide. This is according to the latest figures posted by Box Office Mojo Philippines.

The movie is now up 3 places from no. 13 last week and now at no. 10 which shared places with another Star Cinema Movie entitled ‘Sa’Yo Lamang’ in terms of box office sales in the list of Top Grossing Pinoy Movies for 2010. Can the movie of KIMERALD exceed the final gross of Anne, Claudine and Richard’s In Your Eyes? What do you think?

Meanwhile the suspense-horror movie from Regal Films entitled “White House” starring Gabby Concepcion grossed more than P21.58 million on its 3rd week run from 48 screens nationwide. Topping the local box-office for the weekend period of September 8 to 12 was the animated feature “Despicable Me” with two-weeks gross of P73.65 million. It’s also the no.1 movie in the Philippines for the second week in a row.

Placing second debuting movie Resident Evil: Afterlife which had an opening 5 days gross of P29.27 million.

Star Cinema’s “Here Comes the Bride” hits P113.8 million in 4 weeks while Regal/GMA Films’ “You to Me are Everything” raked in P102.42 million in 5 weeks.

Topping the local box-office for the weekend period of June 2 to 6 is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with a second weekend haul of P39.1 million. This is the Disney film’s second week at no. 1 with current total gross of P117.9 million.

Running in second place is Shrek Forever After with 3rd weekend gross of P21.29 million and current total gross of P137.69 million.

“You to Me are Everything” became the second film after “Miss You Like Crazy” to surpass the P100 million box-office mark this year. However, “Here Comes the Bride”, the 3rd pinoy movie to cross the mark, earned bigger than the DongYan romantic comedy.

Based from the box-office report of Box Office Mojo for the period of May 26 to 30, 2010, Here Comes the Bride earned a whopping P108.47 million in 3 weeks. It was the 3rd top-grossing movie for that weekend after “Prince of Persia” which took the top spot followed by “Shrek Forever After.”

Fifth placer, You to Me are Everything, raked-in a total of P101.9 million in 4 weeks. This is the second movie of Marian Rivera that surpassed the P100 million mark. Her film “My Bestfriend’s Girlfriend” opposite Richard Gutierrez earned P101.26 million in 2008.

"How to Train Your Dragon" breathed a bit of box-office fire with a $43.3 million opening weekend and a No. 1 debut, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Distributed by Paramount, the DreamWorks Animation adventure came in well behind the studio's last cartoon comedy, "Monsters vs. Aliens," which opened with $59.3 million over the same weekend last year.

With strong reviews and enthusiastic responses from viewers in exit polls, DreamWorks expects "How to Train Your Dragon" to have more staying power than "Monsters vs. Aliens" in subsequent weekends, though.

"People just love the film, so we're really anticipating we'll benefit from strong word of mouth going forward," said Anne Globe, head of marketing for DreamWorks.

"How to Train Your Dragon," featuring the voices of Jay Baruchel and America Ferrera in the tale of a Viking youth who tames a fire-breathing reptile, did outperform some other recent animated movies, among them "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," which opened with $30.3 million last September.
